Why Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) at AAUB?

About

The Department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) at Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh (AAUB) offers two specialized four-year B.Sc. programs. Students can choose between two streams: Airframe & Power plant or Avionics. These programs are designed to provide both academic knowledge and hands-on training, equipping students with the skills they need to maintain, repair, and ensure the safety of modern aircraft.
To enroll in the AME programs, candidates must have higher secondary education with a background in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The AME curriculum covers essential subjects like mathematics, physics, aerodynamics, and safety regulations. Additionally, students gain practical training in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft components and systems, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in tasks they will perform in the field.
A key part of the program is the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering licensing course. After successfully completing the required licensing modules (if chosen to undertake by individual student), students can apply for an AME license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). License category certifies a graduate’s capability to carry out maintenance and repair tasks specific to different types of aircraft, preparing them for roles as certified Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
The AME department aims to prepare graduates for successful careers in both national and international aviation sectors. With a focus on current industry standards, the department continually updates its curriculum to ensure relevance and value for students, mentors, and instructors. Graduates from the program can expect a solid foundation in aviation maintenance, safety, and regulatory standards, giving them the opportunity to pursue meaningful careers in the aviation industry as skilled, licensed professionals.

Mission

• To contribute towards the creation of new knowledge through research and innovation in relevant fields of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Airframe and Powerplant) and allied fields to address emerging national and global issues for well-being of the society.
• To enable students in attaining required ethics with an attitude of entrepreneurial skills, ethical values and social consciences.
• To embed leadership qualities amongst the students to follow successful professional career paths and to pursue advanced studies in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Airframe and Powerplant).

About
To create skilled and competent professionals in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) with high morals to meet the national and global needs through creative research and innovations.

OUR ACHIEVEMENT

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) Department at Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh (AAUB) has made significant strides in its mission to advance aviation education and training in Bangladesh. Since its inception, the department has been committed to providing high-quality education in aircraft maintenance engineering with a focus on avionics, the branch of aviation dealing with electronic systems used on aircraft. The department has achieved several milestones that underscore its dedication to excellence in aviation education.

A major accomplishment for the department was securing approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) for its avionics module on January 30, 2024. This approval represents a critical step in aligning the department's curriculum with national and international standards for aircraft maintenance training. The CAAB's approval signifies that the curriculum meets the rigorous regulatory requirements necessary for certifying aircraft maintenance personnel, which in turn enhances the employability and competency of the department's graduates in the aviation industry.

Following the CAAB's approval, the department conducted two module examinations, which marked a significant achievement in the implementation of the newly approved curriculum. These exams were a critical test of the department's preparedness to deliver education that meets the standards set by regulatory authorities and ensures that students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge in avionics maintenance. Conducting these exams also provided valuable feedback to further refine the training process, ensuring that future modules can be delivered with even greater efficiency and effectiveness.

In addition to curricular advancements, the department recently undertook a significant initiative by visiting the Flying Instructors' School (FIS) of the Bangladesh Air Force in Bogura. This visit aimed to foster collaboration between AAUB and the Bangladesh Air Force, with a particular focus on enhancing practical training opportunities for students. The interaction with experienced instructors at FIS allowed students and faculty to gain insights into real-world aviation maintenance practices, providing a bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Exposure to such training environments is crucial in equipping students with the hands-on experience needed to excel in aircraft maintenance roles.

The visit to the Flying Instructors' School not only facilitated valuable learning opportunities but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations in research, training, and skill development. It served as a testament to the department’s commitment to building strong ties with leading aviation institutions and enhancing the quality of its training programs through partnerships.

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) Department at AAUB continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in aviation education through these achievements. With the CAAB's approval of the avionics module, successful administration of module exams, and initiatives to provide practical learning experiences through strategic visits, the department is well-positioned to produce skilled and competent avionics maintenance professionals who can meet the demands of the rapidly evolving aviation industry in Bangladesh and beyond. These accomplishments reflect the department’s dedication to continuous improvement and its vision to become a leader in aviation education and training.
