OUR ACHIEVEMENT

Successful Balloon Test by AAUB PicoSat4Bangladesh Project Team
On February 28th, 2024, during the fifth foundation anniversary of AAUB, a groundbreaking milestone in Bangladesh’s aerospace research was achieved through the successful balloon test of a Cube Satellite. The CubeSat, fully assembled on-site by the PicoSat4Bangladesh project team, was launched to 1126 feet using a weather balloon, marking the first high-altitude CubeSat test in the country. This balloon test, a cost-effective alternative to space missions, provided a near-space environment essential for evaluating satellite performance before an actual orbit deployment.
During the test, the CubeSat, mounted on a custom stainless-steel case, was connected to a tethered high-altitude balloon controlled by a motor-driven reel. The satellite communicated seamlessly with the ground station, transmitting critical environmental data such as temperature, pressure, and humidity to the team. The onboard camera captured images throughout the flight, which were successfully relayed to the ground station.
Additionally, the project involved the development of an automated tracking system using a directional antenna that followed the satellite’s movement in real time. With precise alignment achieved through smooth mechanical control, the system ensured accurate signal reception and data transmission. The project was a collaboration between AAUB, Pico Satellite Company, and the ICT Division’s a2i, under the guidance of leading faculty members and supported by the efforts of students from AAUB.
This achievement not only showcased Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in space technology but also demonstrated the country's potential in the global space economy. The PicoSat4Bangladesh team aims to continue advancing satellite research, with future plans to develop and launch an indigenous CubeSat, cementing the country's presence in aerospace innovation.
